Athens Airport

For Nordic Office of Architecture and Betaplan’s 2024 competition proposal for the expansion of Athens International Airport, TURZEN created 23 CGI views, a multimedia presentation and an architectural animation. Together, they gave the jury three complementary ways to engage with the proposal: to examine the architecture, understand the design, and feel the character of the future airport.

Two Formats.
Two Different Responsibilities.

The multimedia presentation explains the proposal. The animation makes the audience feel it.

Designed for the jury, the multimedia presentation organized complex architectural and operational information into a clear narrative. Voice, image and motion kept the explanation engaging without competing with it.

The animation carried a different responsibility. With reports and the multimedia presentation already carrying the explanatory burden, its primary role was to create an emotional connection with the future airport. Structured around departure and arrival journeys, it kept the spatial sequence clear while using composition, rhythm, sound and atmosphere to give the architecture emotional force.

Architects naturally test how clearly a film communicates their design. TURZEN also asks how powerfully it moves its audience. During previsualisation, we worked with the design team to establish the right balance between architectural clarity and cinematic expression before production began.

Twenty-Three Views. One Coherent Proposal.

Still images do something neither film can replace: they let the jury pause, compare and examine the design. Across 23 CGI views, TURZEN gave the proposal a consistent visual identity from airport scale to passenger experience.
